Functional principle:
The function of an electric fence is based on the immediate and consequent feedback that makes the animal respect the fence. Electric current flows from the fencer to the fence. When an animal touches the fence, the electricity flows through the body of the animal to the soil and further on back to the fencer via the grounding rods. The animal experiences a mild electric shock as the electrons pass through its body. The shock from the fence is felt so unpleasantly that after a few attempts to touch the fence the animals start avoiding it. OLLI fencer requires 220 V power supply, 12 V accumulator and solar batteries.
There are four types of electric fences for horses:
1. Stationary use.
Key design features:
Drive ground rods (height 140−160 cm) 3−10 meters apart in a straight line or a in the selected ground area. The fence tape (not less than 20 mm wide) is used as a conductor. The tape is attached to the rods with insulators in two lines. The height of the top line is 140−160 cm above the ground. The height of the second line ― 60−70 cm above the ground.
2. Temporary use.
Stationary installation differs from a portable stand-alone controller by a built-in rechargeable battery or powered car battery, plastic columns and height of 140−160 cm. Electric fence is used in small areas and is easily transferred.
3. Electric fence to protect wooden elements of a paddock.
To prevent wood eating, red and white tape 12 mm wide is stretched around the inner perimeter of a paddock. Thus, it is possible to increase the service life for wooden elements to a few seasons.
4. Use of electric fence in winter.
Special “winter” type with two contacts is used as a conductor. Can be both stationary and portable.
