A lecture for horse owners ‘First veterinary aid for a horse’
Host
: M. Suchkov, veterinarian, the Mobile horse hospital company.

I think every horse owner at some point believes that his horse is the most unlucky one, because he thinks it gets sick or injured more often than others.

Lacerated wounds, bruises, colic, acute lameness, fever: are injuries and symptoms almost every horse owners faces. As a horse owner you should be able to recognize serious problems and react to them promptly, to take appropriate measures while waiting for your veterinarian.

There is obviously a problem when you see an open wound or bleeding, when a horse is digging and lying. But there are some cases when the symptoms are less noticeable, as a rule, it is the beginning of a disease; at this moment your help is necessary to avoid serious consequences. That's why it's important to know the normal physiological parameters of your horse, including temperature, pulse and respiration.

The lecture will be focused on simple but very important things:
- Normal physiological parameters of a horse;
- Signs to determine the pain’s location;
- Which modern drugs must be stored in your first-aid kit;
- First aid skills improvement: the technique of drug injection, application of bandages, compresses;
- Plan of actions in the following problems: wounds and bleeding, bruises and edema, colic, lameness, and eye injuries.
