Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Masters of Three-in-hand Driving show their skill at the IV Russian Troika Contest 2013
January 20, 2013 – the Central Moscow Hippodrome saw the first stage of the IV Russian Troika Contest 2013.

Four teams from Moscow Oblast, Yaroslavl Oblast, Vologda Oblast, and Kostroma Oblast took part in the contest.

The art of driving the Russian troika (three horses harnessed abreast + a carriage) is considered to be the Olympus of horse riding, for it is a unique a-sync gait harness. The shaft horse (the central horse) must trot fast and distinctly, whereas outrunners (side horses) must gallop. Thus pretty high speed can be attained – 45-50 kmh.

The II stage of the Contest is to be held on February 10, 2013 at the Russian Mansion Hippodrome in Voronezh.
